The design has just gone down hill that’s partly why too. It looks so plain and ordinary. I have a mk5 Jetta 2.0 tsi that’s the best design in my opinion. If they made it look more sporty or luxury it’ll do better because Audi A3 sedan, Mercedes cla and a class sedan still sell well and that’s because their design is so much nicer

The Jetta is a great car. It’s sales are reflective of gas prices - gas was cheap so sales were down, as gas prices go up so do Jetta sales. There is no car that makes more sense for economy than a Jetta - Lasts forever and costs practically nothing to use or own. ... Great 👍 car. (I’m glad they took off that dumb engine cover)

I thought my 2011 Jetta was a good car, till the key got stuck in the ignition and I couldn’t shut it off. VW called it normal maintenance and it cost me over $900. The dealership broke the horn and wipers and tried to dodge fixing it after giving it back to me. Screw VW and especially screw Ganley dealership. They won’t get another penny from me. VW are not the cars they were.

"Please activate the start/stop feature." "Please go f*** yourself." Just did the Stage One ARP tune to my Tiguan. It now defaults to Start/Stop OFF unless you start the car in Eco mode. Imagine that! I can now CHOOSE that obnoxious thing instead of having it jammed down my throat! Highly recommended.

Doug, like others who have already commented, I disagree with your assessment of the MK6 Jetta as a “bad car.” Sure, it is conservatively styled and the interior trim was cheapened from the MK5 (especially in the S trim), but even the S is a good car for no frills basic transportation. Also, the driving experience greatly improved as Volkswagen improved it throughout its run and as you upgrade the trim level to nicer interiors and better engines. I have a 2014 Jetta TDI Premium which may not be a Mercedes Benz, but it is quiet, comfortable, has a nice interior, and a more premium driving experience from what you would expect from a compact car while still being fun. I have almost 130,00 miles on it, and it has been very reliable, even where I live in Northern Minnesota. It will start with no issues when it is -40 degrees. As for styling, it may not not be the flashiest car, but I think it is a great looking car.

I know this will be unpopular here but I've loved and supported VW for a long time but my opinion has changed my 08 Jetta has been stalling randomly and no one can identify cause. I have a 2014 VW Jetta 1.8T. I have been thinking about buying the new model as the tech is upgraded for sure, and styling seems to be pretty good. I was thinking about bumping up to an Audi, Mercedes-Benz, or BMW, but the pricing on the Jetta is really nice. The 1.4T seems like a downgrade engine-wise from what I am driving now. If I go to a GLI then I might as well just step up to a more premium brand. Too many decisions! Great review. Might go to the dealer and look around.

Great review, albeit a bit harsh on this car in my opinion. I think 0-60 in 7.6 secs is enough for this car. It's not a sports car. Those who want a faster car should opt for something different: BMW 330i, Audi 4, Mercedes C or Jaguar XE. Mazda is not a car built for speed. It's a good car but it lacks dynamics completely. This Jetta is at least built on the same technology like Audi. It is DSG + turbo. The only problem it is not a 300 horsepower car. It's built for economy. Yet, it does give a lot of speed for its small displacement and fuel efficiency. The dashboard is pretty impressive. It's indeed looks nicer to me than on many higher end models where touch screens seem to be kinda jury-rigged haphazardly, and physical buttons are sorely missing. They are present though in cars like Bentley, Rolls, and others.

Not true, I care about it because it's better than a Honda or Toyota and the look is more stylish. I prefer the German feel of a car for sure. The sales decline is caused by lack of advertising as well as SUV popularity. Be sure to check out the sporty R-Line versions.
