The E32 BMW 750iL was BMW's flagship luxury sedan from 30 years ago -- and it was the first V12-powered luxury sedan in this segment. Today I'm reviewing the 750iL, and I'm going to show you all the quirks and features of a special BMW luxury sedan -- then I'm going to drive the 750iL and review the BMW 750iL driving experience.

....hey Doug, the „E“ in the shiftprogram means the Economyprogramm or normalprogramm. The German versions got a „S“port and a „W“inter programm! The „S“ on the Wisherlever is for the „Scheinwerfer“ in english called headlamps....that is intensive clean! Also the E32 V12 was the first car ever with Xenon headlamps in 1991 for the European market;)

I have one of those - mine had backseats that can slide forward and recline, a power sunshade, and radio controls covered in the back center console. The battery of this thing is reverse polarity and under the passenger seatswhich lead to a lot of headaches as this always had a voltage leak. They only had a v6 and v12 those days because this was actually 2 v6s mated together which is why the ignition and other top parts are in reverse - left bank controls the right side and vice versa. I just bought it for kicks and no regrets even if I haven't used it for several years now. Oh the kicker is there's a V12 logo on mine that just shouts, I'm special!

just wait till you see a fully optioned out E32. no, you still can't get that stuff on a new Altima as you say. some features of the Highline and Royal Highline aren't even available on the G12.

Doug, when Mercedes got caught off guard by the V-12, they revamped their cars with the V12 and just to get back at their rivals, DOUBLE paned the windows! Mercedes salespeople were firmly ordered to warn customers that the glass was not bulletproof in any way. Its purpose was to make the interior as quiet as possible.

The "S" on the windshield washer stalk is the super-wash selection (lights washer system in German) for "more intensive" cleaning. You say "nothing different"? If you were to have TURNED ON THE LIGHTS (or) even just the driving/fog lights, you would've seen a high blast wash, very similar to the spray experienced when entering a car wash. In addition to the top bumper mounted headlight washer jets, there are also washer jets built into the underside of the bumper just above the driving light lenses. Under the hood are two 2-gal washer fluid tanks/4 washer pumps on opposing sides, connected to more water line than a garden hose. The wipers are dynamic/speed sensitive - sensors connected to the wiper arm linkage, monitoring the drag/down force of air hitting the wiper blade spoiler. At high speeds, the linkage will add tension to the arm, forcing the blades more firmly onto the windscreen and also adjust the frequency in between each wipe (faster at higher speeds) cycle. I've just spent over 7 lines in a comment section covering one very "minor" detail of overwhelming design advancements/engineering found in the E32. Three position "seat memory" Doug? Oh, so, much more than "just" seat memory. But hey... don't get me started. Once again, you obsess on a quirk; but fail to investigate or fully inform the viewer of the quirks you find so fascinating. For a Ytuber with a deep passion for cars, a subscription base equal to the population of Vermont, and presumably a healthy income through monetization - some folks may expect a more earnest effort into production; other than that of say, a 12 year old loopy from whiffing a lunch bag of glue. That and maybe a back-up pair of shorts?

MB and BMW used Model T black steering wheels for decades. Cadillac did one year--1970--and people still accuse them of cheaping out. They did use a wheel for the climate control for decades beginning in the 60's.

Try 1987 - these came out in 87 as an 88 model in the US and my old man popped for the first one in town. I didn't see you take it on the freeway in this video which is a shame because that's where the V12 really could be felt. You have to remember, in 88 there were very few cars toting 300hp under the hood, let alone a big comfy sedan (which is about the size of a new 5 series now). He had a K-40 radar detector installed (I believe with front and rear mounted sensors?) with the display neatly mounted inside the ash tray. You missed the one-touch operated power sunroof, power rear seats, and rear sunshade. He had the BMW phone which was hands-free via a tiny mic mounted to the left of the drivers sun visor (another first?) and came in handy on the way to see, The Golden Child, opening night when my friend forgot to call his parents to tell them we were going to a movie. I was too young to ever drive it proper but according to him (a man who had owned a 928S, 930 turbo, 911's, XJ sedan, 560SEC previous to it) it was pretty damn fast once you where on the highway. Lots of fond memories for me in that car.
Tomi Tuominen3 ימים לפני
The list at the other side of the phone is not for writing down the numbers, but for specifying which numbers you have preset on the phone; i.e. you preset numbers and you don't have to remember them, just dial by choosing 1-10.

The "S" on the windshield whiper stock means "Scheinwerferreingungsanlage" which translates to headlamp cleaning system. It sprays washer fluid on the head lamps and the windscreen simultaneously.

The rear seat belt is arranged that way because it restrains the passengers better, allegedly the head does not knock on the vehicle side on a side impact. That is all to it, no Taxi myth, no first responder myth.

@DasPolarlichtlein sorry another german told me. I heard it from a german dude and thought it was legit
DasPolarlichtlein4 ימים לפני
@John *_where did you hear this fairy tale ?_* _decades ago in germany a toll was planned, but was never introduced. today there is a toll only for trucks, which is billed via electronic devices on the autobahn. consequently in germany there are no toll booths with barriers where coins are thrown into payment machines. educate yourself. or learn to search on google._ edit: but yes...that is space for coins. back then there were parking meters (one thing for every spot) with coin slots and dials to operate the device. today you put money in one machine and a bill is printed, which you have to put behind your windscreen. the most modern version is an app on your mobile. you scan the code, set the time, get your bill printed, and place it behind the windscreen.

Bosch didn't make a V12 Motronic ECU in 1987, so BMW used two fully separate 6-cylinder engine control systems for this engine. There are 2 fuel pumps, 2 distributors, 2 ECMs, etc. You can run the engine and drive around on the right or left bank only, which is sometimes useful for diagnostic trouble-shooting.

Those wheels are made in Italy. They are the EXACT same wheels that are fitted to The 95 MERC, but mine have Mercury Hubcaps. Those wheels were fitted to early-90s Crown Vics, Grand Marquis , and Town Cars. I took 'em off of a '92 Crown Vic, and fitted used Mercury caps -- I like the looks of the classic-style pattern that I call "Italian Lace". Getting hard to find quality tires for the 15-inchers -- may have to go to 17s. www.mercuryforum.com/forum/grand-marquis-14/1995-grand-marquis-restoration-8937/

Apparently the rear seat belts were designed that way to priorise stopping lateral movement in a side impact, so rear occupants would not clash heads. I have so much of this exact same stuff as options in one of my 540i E34s (the cheaper baby brother to the E32). I love it all, especially the first aid kit under the front seat that was "Made in West Germany". Along with the more modern V8/5 speed in the lighter E34, it is a classic car that is far more liveable than other 30 year old cars, it is fantastically cheap as its the under the radar consumable alternative to these classics, but the high build quality means a lot of the stuff lasts if its kept clean. Modern suspension really helps wake these up (the body roll on worn stock suspension is especially horrible)
